…KNOW YOUR BATTERY SERIES Part 2

In continuation of the series on battery types, the next battery type is the:
4. Nickel-Iron Batteries: (NiFe) These battery types are renowned for their “loooong” lifespan, often lasting several decades. They are very durable and can withstand a wide range of temperatures and over-charging without significant damage. They, however, have a low energy density and are consequently, bulky. They have a high self-discharge rate and are less efficient when compared to other battery types.

5. Salt water battery: Also known as sodium-ion batteries, they are a very new technology in the energy storage market and are not yet available commercially. They use a water-based electrolyte making them non-toxic and therefore safer for the environment. They offer good performance, high energy efficiency, and have a long life cycle. These could be the future of energy storage.

6. Flow Batteries: Flow batteries consist of two electrolyte solutions stored in separate tanks, a positive and negative electrolyte. One advantage of flow batteries is their ability to separate the energy storage capacity from power output. Making them suitable for large-scale energy storage applications, such as renewable energy integration & grid stabilization. They’re easily scaled up (by increasing the size of the tanks). Flow batteries are considered a flexible and scalable solution for large-scale energy storage, and ongoing advancements aim to improve their performance, reduce costs, and increase the number of ways they can be used in the future.
